School Nursing is a complex specialty with a broad scope of practice, necessitating specific skills and extensive knowledge in an unusually wide range of areas
(NASN, 2001, 2002a; Proctor, 1998; Wold, 2001).
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health's School Health Unit and Northeastern University School Health Institute have joined together to develop continuing education programs to assist school nurses in their quest to provide current, comprehensive care in all areas of school health. It is our hope that these programs will support you in your efforts to improve the health and academic success of your students.
The first four programs offered are the Massachusetts Mandated Screening Programs; Vision, Hearing, Growth, and Postural. These are offered to supplement and not replace the mandated hands on screening program offered by the School Health Institute.
